BREAKING NEWS - The NFHS boys lacrosse rules committee discussed the interpretation regarding shoulder pads with removable pieces and adopted the following situation and ruling: Situation: team a purchased new shoulder pads for the team. Parts of the shoulder pads came from the manufacturer with parts attached with velcro. In addition to the parts attached with velcro, there were two additional parts in the box that could be added to the pads with velcro. Is it a requirement that all parts of the pad be worn to be in compliance with the rules? Ruling: players are not required to wear pieces of the pads and other protective equipment that the manufacturer intended to be optional. Thus, pieces that came with the pads that are attached with velcro or loose in the box and could be added with velcro attachment are considered optional and players are not required to wear them. 09.10.08/ds (per NFHS Kent Summers 08.29 email)
PLAY LAX - Lacrosse sticks are for passing, receiving, and carrying lacrosse balls, and sometimes for checking other sticks. Lacrosse sticks are not for checks to other players' heads. 05.11.08/ds
ETHICS - All coaches are asked to carefully review the NFHS published codes of ethics. A rule of common sense is expected to be practiced by all teams' head and assistant coaches. Any test of ethical limits is bad for this truly great game. 04.20.08/ds
JERSEYS - The OHSLA executive committee unanimously voted to grandfather the legality of all jerseys already purchased until year 2010. Effectively, NFHS rules about jerseys will go into effect in the year 2010 as required then. This action protects recent and current investments made by OHSLA teams for a reasonable number of years. 01.31.07/ds
